                                                                                  Going With the Motion

Have you ever tried to take a picture while whatever you're shooting is in motion? Well I have and this is the kind of direction Jonathan Shaw goes towards. While shooting a motion shot we have to change the shutter speed. For example, if you change the shutter speed 1/2000, whatever is in motion will look almost still since the shutter speed is fast. If the shutter speed is 1/30 then whatever is in motion will be more blurry than everything else.

Jonathan Shaw is a photographer who captures motion. Whether it be people playing basketball, dancing, or just casually walking. Jonathon Shaw was born in 1966 and he is still alive today. He studied photography, graphic design, and computer graphics at the University of the West of England between 1990 and 1996 and then completed a Master’s degree at the Birmingham City University in 1997.

His pictures make me laugh, they are enjoyable too see. It seems almost as if he takes a panoramic picture of people or a landscape while they are still moving. It makes it look like there are a lot more people if someone is moving fast, but if there is somebody moving as slow as a snail then their faces tend to stretch out and look sort of funny. I wonder where he got this idea of taking pictures of people in motion but as a panoramic view.

Some of his publications were National Geographic, Nature’s Best, National wildlife, Audubon, and Outdoor Photography Jonathan’s work can be found in the collections of Arts Council of England, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and Birmingham Central Library Photographic Archive, as well as various private collections. He is a photographer, researcher and educator based in the UK. He is also an Associate Head of the Media department for Innovation, Profile and Research, at the School of Art & Design, Coventry University.

All in all Jonathan Shaw's pictures are original. I've never seen pictures like his. Their unique and different compared to other photographers. I wonder if he used a fast shutter speed or slow shutter speed for the pictures that he takes. Looking at his pictures almost remind me of Dr.Seuss books, it's almost as if it is another world or another dimension. People and random items are deformed but also morphed in a way where it looks interesting.
